Nauru Government Boosts Fortnightly Allowance for All Senior Citizens
New financial support aims to honor contributions and provide greater independence to Nauru’s elders
The Government of Nauru announced a significant increase in the fortnightly allowance for senior citizens, effective from Thursday, 6 November 2025. This adjustment comes after the recent boost in payments to the ‘Young at Heart’ group and follows careful review and consultation with the Cabinet.
President David Adeang confirmed that the government has extended this enhanced support to all Nauruans aged 60 years and older. The new rates for seniors are as follows:
Those aged 60 to 69 will receive $400 per fortnight, up from $335.
The 70 to 74 age bracket now receives $500, increased from $385.
Seniors aged 75 and above will get $600, a rise from $385.
The ‘Young at Heart’ group will receive an additional $500, totaling $1,000 every fortnight.
The ‘Young at Heart’ are Nauruans who survived the occupation of Nauru during World War II and were the first seniors to receive fortnightly allowances when the program was introduced in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis in the mid-2000s. This recognition honors their lifelong contributions to the nation. More importantly, the government emphasizes that these financial adjustments aim to enhance the independence and quality of life for all senior citizens in Nauru through greater economic support.
This critical policy development reflects the government's ongoing commitment to caring for its aging population while acknowledging their valuable role in Nauruan society.
